As options for the 2025 grid become more and more limited, current Kick-Sauber driver Valtteri Bottas is yet to put pen to paper to secure himself a seat for the upcoming season.

Speaking to media in Baku on Thursday, Bottas revealed that “things are progressing” and that he is “almost in daily contact” with Mattia Binotto – Audi’s new Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer who signed with the team at the beginning of August.

“There’s always the contract situation which is an extra stress – it can be, let’s just say, but things are progressing”

“We are still almost in daily contact with Mattia figuring out what each party wants and yeah, that’s about it.”

A seat at Sauber for the 2025 season would see Bottas line up alongside current Haas driver, Nico Hulkenberg, perhaps indicating that Sauber/Audi are aiming for a more experienced line-up as they rebrand for the 2026 season.

When asked whether he would continue racing if he failed to secure a seat for the 2025 season, Bottas replied “I don’t think it’s necessary to think about that too much now… I think for me it’s very clear where I want to be and where I most likely will be, which is in Formula 1.”

“Let’s say if it’s a hypothetical question of if not Formula 1, I would definitely race. I’m a racer, I’ve been racing all my life and I couldn’t just quit racing. Plan B would be IndyCar, try and win the championship in X amount of years, but I don’t think that’s yet.”
