Kevin Magnussen, who is leaving the Haas F1 team at the end of this season, has been announced as a BMW M Motorsport LMDh driver for 2025.

Magnussen was left without a Formula 1 seat after Haas confirmed Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon as their line-up for 2025. Unsure of what the future held, Magnussen hadn’t ruled out staying within the world of Formula 1 as a test & reserve driver.

However, just before the final race in Abu Dhabi this weekend, Magnussen and BMW M Motorsport have announced that he will join the team’s LMDh line-up for 2025, with the full driver line-up being revealed in due course. BMW currently compete within the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA with their M Hybrid V8.

Magnussen said: “I am happy and proud to represent such an iconic motorsport brand as BMW in some of the world’s most legendary races… After 10 years in Formula 1, I am embarking on a new and exciting chapter, and I look forward to taking on the challenge in the most innovative and advanced sportscars in the history of endurance racing.”

BMW Motorsport boss Andreas Roos added: “Thanks to his extensive experience, he is a true asset to our project. His previous full season with a sportscar prototype in 2021 is another advantage for us, as it will surely ease his acclimatisation to the BMW M Hybrid V8… I am very delighted that Kevin Magnussen is a part of the BMW M Motorsport family now.”

Magnussen will start his 185th and final Grand Prix this weekend in Abu Dhabi, where he will no doubt be looking to finish his fantastic Formula 1 career on a high before heading to the world of endurance racing. Even so, Haas have said they are keen to continue a relationship with Kevin in some manner, meaning he could be around the F1 paddock alongside this new venture.
